Frances & Ossa

Tanner, Frances Elaine - It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our precious daughter and sister, Frances. She passed away at The Orchards Retirement Residence, Vineland on Sunday, December 19th, 2010.

Born in St. Catharines on March 14, 1959, she attended public and high school in St. Catharines, then graduated with a BASc. in Hospitality and Family Studies from Guelph University. Her career took her to Meeting and Event planning in Niagara Falls, Toronto, Oshawa and St. Catharines, primarily in the hospitality industry. An active participant in community projects, Frances attended church at First Grantham United Church, was a part of many volunteer organizations in St. Catharines, and was an advisor on the Mayor's Advisory Committee on Accessibility.

She took particular pleasure and pride in presenting "Tanner Talks" on visual impairment and assisting others to understand how to help and support the blind community. As a vibrant and active blind person, she took part in many remarkable sports activities - curling, bowling, kayaking, skiing, bicycling and camping. She has departed this world, but has left her spirit, courage, enthusiasm, tenacity and desire to help others for all to follow.

We express our sincere thanks to all the physicians who have helped Frances with all the physical challenges she has had to live with and through.

Frances leaves her parents, Mary-Jane and Bill, her brothers Ken (Carol) and Scott (Linda) and nieces Lindsay and Allison, nephews Gordon, Dylan and Bruce (deceased).

As an expression of sympathy, the family requests donations to the UCW of First Grantham United Church, or a charity in support of disabled or differently-abled persons.

A memorial service in celebration of Frances' life will be held at First Grantham United Church, 415 Linwell Rd, St. Catharines on Sunday, January 23rd at 2 p.m.

Arrangements entrusted to Butler Funeral Home, Downtown Chapel, 905-684-2334.
